It’s been an interesting year as NFL and NBA licensing switches from Panini to Topps, and we get to find the new insert cards that we want to target for grading purposes. The one we’re talking about today, Topps Chrome Tecmo, is fun because it’s a set with a lot of upside but that’s also pretty tricky to grade.
The Topps Chrome Tecmo cards are found in the 2025 Topps Chrome Football product line, and are inspired by the old Tecmo Super Bowl video game. They are fairly rare and expensive, but at the same time there is enough volume that they are worth targeting specifically. The set is an interesting mix too, covering rookies from the 2025 rookie class, modern stars, and legend cards.
Because supply is limited, it’s a bit challenging to estimate market values, which introduces some risk when calculating EV. With that said, I’ll try to leave some notes about when markets are genuinely ambiguous, but for the most part, each card has at least a few sales as PSA 10s, 9s, and raw cards.
Additionally, grading is tricky. These are fairly low Gem Rate cards with the set average around 40% and a significant number of these cards getting PSA 8s or worse (about 17%). This makes sense, as the all black back of the card is pretty unforgiving. I recommend paying careful attention to whitening on the corners, edges, and surfaces on the back of the card. With all this in mind, we’ve included a PSA 8 probability in the calculations below. (You can also review our Complete Guide to PSA Grading here).
Given the challenges, this is not a great set for beginners, but for those who are comfortable taking some risk, there is a lot of profit potential. For our money, we’ve bought five of these so far, so it’s a product that we like and will continue targeting.
